Look after the Labels and the Labels will look after you.
Companies spend a lot of time and money designing a label for their product and then getting a printer to produce thousands if not millions of labels intended to best enhance the product and its sales appeal. But how many run the risk of spoiling all this effort by careless handling at point of application.
Here are a few pointers to get the very best from the correct handling of your labels, and save money too.
1. INCOMING GOODS RECEPTION
Always check the condition of incoming goods when they arrive, not when about to use them.
2. STOCKROOM STORAGE
Store the labels in their bags/boxes until ready to use.
Keep physical handling of labels to a minimum.
Ensure storage temperature and humidity are similar to that of applicator lines. Too damp or too dry conditions can affect label performance over time.

Never Double stack pallets of labels
Store away from heat sources and direct sunlight
Avoid hanging labels on pegs as gravity could distort the core shape
4. APPLICATION
Allow labels time at applicator to reach applicator area temperature
Return unused labels to the box for future use
Make sure the applicator is properly maintained
5. MORE APPLICATION TIPS
Ensure correct tension on the liner
If you experience a problem, stop the process and replace with a new roll.
Give the label sufficient time for the adhesive to become permanent.

In 2008, Label Tech achieved both the Forestry Sustainability Council (FSC) and Pan European Forest Certification (PEFC) accreditations, committing to using paper products sourced from sustainably managed forests.
But being GREEN is not just about accreditations.
At Label Tech, we live our GREEN philosophy and this helps us, and our customers, to save money as well as the environment. Here is an update on some of the GREEN initiatives we have been working on.
MATERIALS: As well as being able to procure papers from sustainably managed sources, Label Tech seeks to match the appropriate label material to the pack or surface on which it will be used. We recommend plastic labels on plastic packs where greater recyclability is needed .
MATERIAL COMBINATIONS: We are constantly reviewing label and backing paper gauges and materials to find the most effective weight, volume cost and strength combinations. The more effective the combination the higher the productivity and less problems and downtimes experienced for both Label Tech and our customers. This not only reduces waste but saves money.
CORES: Label Tech cut all our label cores to size in house so we only use what is needed and do not stock excessive ranges.
OUTER PACKAGING: Inner bags are now only used where requested by our customers and we use a number of outer carton sizes, supplied on a JIT basis to minimize excess cardboard and offer more effective product protection. Less cardboard also means less cost.
INKS: Label Tech now recycle surplus inks in house for use on basic label applications
Deliveries: Regular schedules are reviewed to optimize trips and minimize charges.
PLATES AND DIES: We will always use stock plates and dies where possible to avoid ordering new ones, so saving costs and labour. Digital printing carries no plate costs as they are not required.
ENERGY: Label Tech plan our printing schedules optimizing the use of our newer presses such as our HP Indigo 4500 Digital Printing press and MARK ANDY 2200 SERVO Superior Printing System as they are more energy efficient and cost effective.
DESIGN: Where possible the use of email and the internet is utilized for the conveying, proofing and approval of artworks and designs, as well as the bulk of customer communications.
In addition to the specific initiatives outlined here, Label Tech segregates all our internal waste streams for return to supplier or removal as recyclable streams by waste contractor. This includes all office and canteen waste as well as waste generated in the various manufacturing processes.
